Do I really need an Integrated Shield Plan (IP) if I already have MediShield Life?

MediShield Life is sized for Class B2 and C wards in government public hospitals. If you prefer the comfort and privacy of Class B1, Class A, or Private hospital wards with your choice of specialist doctor, an Integrated Shield Plan is essential to prevent large pro-ration bill shock.

How much of my IP insurance premium can be paid using MediSave?

The MediShield Life portion is 100% payable via MediSave. The private IP upgrade portion is payable from MediSave up to the Additional Withdrawal Limit ($300 for age ≤40, $600 for age 41–70, $900 for age 71+). The remainder and all riders must be paid in cash.

What is the mandatory 5% co-payment on Integrated Shield Plan riders?

To discourage medical over-consumption, MAS and MOH mandate that full 100% coverage riders are no longer sold. All modern riders require a minimum 5% co-payment from the patient, usually capped at $3,000 to $6,000 per policy year when using panel doctors.
